High School

People always say that high school is supposed to be the best time of your life. In the movies we watch they highlight partying, skipping class, sports, highschool sweethearts, picking on "losers" and at least one super smart asian kid. And we can't forget prom. Prom is like the all time peak of high school...so they say.

I happen to disagree with this "ultimate highschool experience" but that's not what I want to focus on. I always wondered..'but what about AFTER highschool ?' Then what do we do ? What happens to all the potheads, the cool people, the jocks, the lames and everybody in between ? Well I've been out of high school for a total of 3 years now and well..some things change...and some don't.

A few of the "potheads" are still smoking marijuanna on a regular basis. They either didn't go or never finished their higher education. Most of them stayed local and pretty much mooch off their parents.

Many of our "jocks" went on to different universities to further their career in hopes of playing professionally. Many of them don't take the academic standpoint of college seriously and have no plan B.

Several of the "lames" I know have gotten married and are working at fast food restaurants. Some however did go to college and managed to either "unlame" themselves or realized that they simply don't care what other people think of them. They're happy. It's always easier to just be yourself, someone will love you.

A few of the "cheerleaders" married military men. Many of them also have children. Stay at home moms or licensed in something. That something is usually nursing.

The more uhm...promiscuous students are still rather promiscous. Never broke that habit of binge drinking and flashing strangers etc.

And of course there are many many others that have more unique paths whether it be finding a spiritual journey in life, moving out of the country and beginning a new or having reached goals they made freshmen year.

I guess then my next question would be, 'What really mattered ?' Is highschool the foundation of the rest of our lives ? Would you have been better off had you not dated that guy ? if you didn't fight that girl ? if you would have gotten suspended once instead of always playing it safe ?

It doesn't really matter. It's all in the past. These life experiences are now just memories and it's time to get serious about where we're going in life. Some people change...and some people don't.
